In 1977, Taproot Hearth & Patio had one goal:

To introduce wood-burning stoves to williamsburg.

With that in mind, Taproot began with the following values at the core:

Meet Dave.

After graduating from William & Mary in the early 70s, Dave toured the coast as a bass guitarist. His band was in New Hampshire when Dave saw his future. He walked into a wood stove shop on a Saturday morning - it was late September and the store was warm, inviting and full of customers looking to heat their homes with wood.  

For Dave, it was love at first sight.   

And so, Taproot Woodstoves opened in November 1977 in a barber shop on York street.  That Fall, the shop saw many visitors. But in the Spring, business slowed - few customers were interested in home heating when the weather warmed. So Dave expanded his product line and the store became Taproot Hearth & Patio.

Since, Taproot has added many products: gas logs and inserts, grills, fire pits, hammocks, pizza ovens... the list grows every season.  We are always on the lookout for quality products which save energy, make our customers comfortable, enhance homes and are just fun to use.
